I wouldn’t exactly call all of the Italian movies that I love highbrow, but I don’t know anything about the genre called “giallo”– these are movies, especially from the 70s, with murder, excessive bloodletting, stylish camerawork and unusual musical arrangements combined with liberal amounts of nudity and sex.
For some scary Halloween slasher-film fun, go see the experts over at the Italian Film Review. Their latest reviewed movie, Hitch Hike / Autostop rosso sangue (1977), for example, they call “far superior to Last House on the Left“.
They’ve got it all – zombies, movies about snuff films, children who are killed at the hands of organ harvesters – you name it!
So Happy Halloween – go scare yourself silly – Italian-style.
