Something to look forward to in 2012 – A new movie by Silvio Soldini (Pane e Tulipani) called Il comandante e la cicogna (The Commander and the Stork), with lots of familiar faces and an interesting plot.
This one’s got Alba Rohrwacher (I Sono L’amore) , Giuseppe Battiston (Pane e Tulipani), Claudia Gerini (Non ti Muovere), Valerio Mastandrea (La Prima Cosa Bella) and Luca Zingaretti (La Nostra Vita), and with Silvio directing, I’m thinking that this one might be a winner.
It’s about a widowed working-class father who falls in love with a struggling, poor artist – looks like Mastandrea is the father – Rohrwacher is the artist?
Says Soldini about his new project: I wanted to write a musical. I’m coming from two films that were very realistic and I needed to do something funny and ironic, but the ideas that were coming to me I didn’t like. I thought, “What other forms could it take that I would want to tell”? The situation that we are in these days with the politics and the mudslinging, I wanted to do something beautiful, using elements of reality mixed with the surreal and to make it believable but enjoyable.
Sound like Pane e Tulipani – Bread and Tulips? That would be great!
They are filming now; take a look at what’s happening on the set.
