Italian Movies For Free On Hulu

Watch L’Ultimo Bacio Free on Hulu and Hulu Plus

I worry about the death of the DVD; what will happen when streaming completely takes over? As it is now, with my region free DVD player I can buy and watch anything sold in Italy, but I can only stream what has been distributed in the United States.

I understand that I’m not breaking the law by downloading movies that have been illegally uploaded, but that makes me uncomfortable, so I’m constantly searching for ways to stream Italian movies.

Hulu is a one more way, a website offering ad-supported streaming video of TV shows and movies from NBC, Fox, ABC, and many other networks and studios. Hulu videos are currently offered only to users in the United States and for us, and even though they aren’t easy to find, there are Italian movies and other foreign films. At first glance the search looks like a nightmare; there are only options for Spanish, Japanese and Korean in the “genre” section (not even French?). And so you just have to look.

So far, I see only movies that are available through Netflix, but they are free on Hulu. Help us out, readers! Tell us about streaming movies from Italy – not just the ones that are already distributed outside the country. When DVDs die, will those movies be lost to us?

I’ll add to the list over the next few days, but here are some I’ve found.

Bread and Tulips ( Pane e Tulipani)

Description from Hulu:

Title: Bread & Tulips (2000)
Runtime 1 hr. 56 min.

Silvio Soldino directs this gentle comedy about a housewife who temporarily flees from the grinding tedium of her household duties and drifts into a world of amicable weirdos. When Rosalba (Licia Maglietta) is accidentally forgotten by her tour bus at a roadside restaurant, she does not wait there as instructed. She decides to hitchhike home, but on a whim, she ends up in Venice instead. Quietly exhilarated at the prospect of being alone for a spell, she checks into an inn run by a kindly yet eccentric Icelander (Bruno Ganz). Her plans to return the next day are thwarted when she misses her train and does not have enough money to buy another ticket. Soon she is gainfully employed at a flower shop run by an irascible old anarchist. Though her teenaged sons do not seem all that bothered by their mom’s absence, Rosalba’s husband grows increasing agitated at the interruption in his routine, so he hires a bumbling detective to track her down.

Bread and Tulips is not available on Hulu Plus (streaming to TV).

Come Undone (Cosavogliodipiù)
