I loved birthday boy Elio Germano in Ferzan Ozpetek’s adorable comedy, Magnifica Presenza (Magnificent Haunting) and Daniele Luchetti’s ‘La Nostra Vita’ (Our Life), but the easiest of his films to find in the US is Mio Fratello È Figlio Unico (My Brother is an Only Child), also starring the very good-looking Riccardo Scamarcio.
You can “save” La Nostra Vita on Netflix (C’mon Netflix, throw us a bone! Make it available to us in the US!), and you should do just that, because Germano won the best actor award at 2010 the Cannes Film Festival for his role in it. Also starring Raoul Bova and Isabella Ragonese, La Nostra Vita’s funeral scene is one of my very favorites.
A 2008 Berlinale Shooting Star and a big star in Italy today, I was surprised to find out that Elio Germano is also a rapper. Is he a good one? You be the judge.
