I have been dying to hear what my friends over at the Paola Cortelessi Fan Forum, ‘No Perditempo‘ had to say about Paola’s new film with Carlo Verdone and I’m happy to report that they loved Sotto Una Buona Stella (under a lucky star). Since I won’t be able to see it until the DVD comes out, forum moderator Maria Francesca Monni has written us a review; THANK YOU MARIA FRANCESCA!
The No Perditempo Forum is one of the most friendly and welcoming groups on the internet and if you love Italian movies, Paola Cortellesi, or even just the friendship of wonderful girls, you should really visit them. For the millionth time, these girls are the sweetest, most ardent fans a movie star could have, and they have been ever so nice to me; in fact, they made a video with Paola just for me:
Sotto Una Buona Stella opened last week and is doing very well at the box office so let’s hope it turns up in the US this year. In the meantime, “Maryfra” shares her thoughts for us and writes: “for the dearest Cheri and the friends of I Love Italian Movies”…
Finally, Carlo Verdone and Paola Cortellesi together!
For those who know them, both have careers in Italian television portraying many characters, for example:

They have a great command of impersonations and can do various italian dialects, but not just that:
The chemistry between the two actors have been underestimated and their scenes together in the film are amazing!
The story is about things that happen in a modern Italian family, Carlo Verdone facing them in ways that are alternately funny and moving. As in Tu La Conosci Claudia? ( Cheri’s favorite, by the way) there’s a voice-over by Verdone summarizing parts of the story.
The first part is dedicated to the life of Federico Picchioni (Carlo Verdone) who has to change his lifestyle because of something terrible that has happened. When he meets Luisa Tombolini (Paola Cortellesi), she brings with her the best laughs. The jokes ( many of them improvisation between the two actors) lighten the lives of the protagonists who had been unhappy in their personal and professional lives.
I don’t want to give away too much but I’ll reveal a couple of matters of interest…for example, in one scene Paola recreates Meg Ryan’s orgasm scene in When Harry Met Sally, one of the scenes that got the most laughs from the audience. In my favorite scene Luisa ends a difficult day by getting wildly drunk in front of Federico.
I’m not sure if Americans know that Carlo Verdone is a true enthusiast of medicine and pharmaceuticals (he’d wanted to be a doctor), and if you have seen ‘Maledetto il giorno che ti ho incontrato’ you might have some idea; in this film there are scenes in which the doctor in him comes out.
I really loved this film and I hope you can appreciate it too. Until then, here is a “behind the scenes” clip:
Greetings to everyone and a special kiss for Cheri!
Thank you! That was wonderful sweetie! Thanks so much from all of us, e una BACIONE a te!
