Having thoroughly enjoyed her first film, Corpo Celeste, I can’t wait to see Alice Rohrwacher’s second, ‘Le Meravglie‘ (The Wonders), in competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The plot is still a little sketchy; four sisters live in a little protective “kingdom” that their father has created for them “because the world is about to end” until a young German boy arrives and causes some kind of a stir. Also, there’s some kind of a TV contest going on in their town, with prizes given by a “white fairy”, and it looks like that fairy is Monica Bellucci. Sorry, I don’t understand any of that better than you do. But we’ll see. Starring with Monica, Alice’s famous sister actress Alba Rohrwacher.
An Italian film has not won the Palme D’Or since Nanni Moretti’s ‘La Stanza Del Figlio’, in 2001 so fingers crossed, everyone, for Alice!
