Since the Cinepanettone King decided to step down and this is the first post-DeSica year in Italy (and the beginning of the new “Cinepanettone 2.0, as it is being called), we’ll share this tribute to son of the great director Vittorio De Sica and sister-in-law to Carlo Verdone, Christian De Sica.
We Americans don’t exactly get Cinepanettone, but we love Christmas and so we love the idea of Christmas tradition. And though we’ll have to agree to disagree with De Sica when he says:
“Ormai il cinema italiano non sta messo più tanto bene, è agli ultimi botti, perciò dico addio ai cinepanettoni.” (Italian cinema’s not doing well so he’s saying goodbye.)
Italian films are getting better all the time, but maybe it is time to say goodbye to Cinepanettone.
