Born on March 4, 1964 in Livorno, Italy, director Paolo Virzì’s “the other Paolo”, giving Paolo Sorrentino a run for his money with his most recent film, Il Capitale Umano (Human Capital).
Sorrentino may have won the Oscar (for La Grande Bellezza), but Virzì won more prizes back home in Italy for Human Capital. Based on a book by American author Stephen Amidon, Human Capital is the captivating story of two families, greed, and a poor guy who has the misfortune to be riding his bike one night when everything is blowing up for them.
Virzì’s no one hit wonder, and many of his films are available to US audiences in DVD form, streaming, and in US film festivals.
Married to the gorgeous Micaela Ramazzotti, the two are definitely a power couple right up there with Golino and Scamarcio. Paolo’s brother, Carlo, is famous too, a musician that does the soundtracks for most of Paolo’s movies.
Congratulazioni Paolo Virzì. You are the I LOVE ITALIAN MOVIES PERSON OF THE YEAR! When are you going to make a movie over here in the US? Ti aspettiamo!
