Paolo Sorrentino’s La Giovanezza (The Early Years)
After having won the Oscar for La Grande Bellezza we can’t wait to see director Paolo Sorrentino’s new English language film starring Michael Canine and Harvey Keitel. Two old friends meet on vacation at a hotel in the Alps.
It is scheduled for Italian theaters in May, but there is talk of a Cannes debut.
Mia Madre from Nanni Moretti
Nanni Moretti’s personal tribute to his own mother, Mia Madre will be out this year, starring Margherita Buy, Italian American John Turturro, and Moretti himself.
Il Racconto dei Racconti from Matteo Garrone
Garrone takes 17th Century fairy tales from Napoletano GIanbattista and adds an international cast with Salma Hayes and VIncent Cassel. It’s scheduled to debut on May 14.
Maraviglioso Boccaccio from the Taviani Brothers
The Taviani Brothers have collected an amazing cast, Riccardo Scamarcio, Jasmine Trinca, Kim Rossi Stuart, Carolina Crescentini, Paola Cortellesi, – just to mention a few – and tell some of the stories from the Decameron. The stories are varied, as are the stories in Boccaccio’s work, some funny, some tragic.
Fathers and Daughters from Gabriele Muccino
I don’t know how “anticipated” this one is, after his last English language bomb (Playing for Keeps), but we’re very curious about what Gabriele Muccino does with this new one and Russell Crowe, Aaron Paul, Jane Fonda, and Amanda Seyfried.
