Of all the great Italian films that wish would make it to the USA, E La Chiamano Estate isn’t one of them.
Starring Jean-Marc Barr, Luca Argentero and Isabella Ferrari and directed by Paolo Franchi, yet another “why this one?” is available for American viewers.
Jean-Marc Barr plays Dino, a long-suffering nymphomaniac that has sex with everything except his wife Anna, played by Isabella Ferrari. He can’t for some reason; he’s only attracted to prostitutes and swingers and he can’t get enough of them. Dino’s love for Anna is absolute and pure, so much so that he tracks down her old lovers and begs them to take her back because he’s tired of disappointing her.
If you love graphic sex scenes, almost to the point of pornographic, this one’s for you. And if you are a fan of Isabella Ferrari’s one track expression (I’m trying to remember if I’ve ever seen her turn the corners of her lips up more than a little bit) of suffering and pain, then you are in luck.
The dialogue is ridiculous and the histrionics are excruciating. Dino, an anesthesiologist, can’t even talk to his patients without make it seem like he’s coming on to them.
The final word: Yuck.
If you are desperate for something Italian to watch, go ahead, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.
