Perfetti Sconosciuti (Perfect Strangers) was named an official selection the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival in the International Narrative Competition.Paolo Genovese’s box office hit is an ensemble comedy with a terrific cast: Giuseppe Battiston, Anna Foglietta, Marco Giallini, Edoardo Leo, Valerio Mastandrea, Alba Rohrwacher, and Kasia Smutniak
A group of old friends who meet for dinner, and decide to play a social media game with their cellphones and guess what. It sounds like fun, but no one has taken into consideration the dangerous secrets that those cellphones hold, and the trouble they can cause.
Director Paolo Genovese said, “The idea was to sketch out that secret life we cannot come clean about, up until 20 years ago, our secrets were kept inside us; today, they are buried in our mobile phones, which have become a little bit like our black boxes.”
Genovese is the director of one of my favorites, the hilarious Una Famiglia Perfetta, about the wealthy and mysterious Leone (Sergio Castellitto) who hired a “perfect family” for the Christmas holidays. A beautiful wife (Claudia Gerini), a loving mother and brother (Marco Giallini), and three (three and a half, or four, depending on how you look at it) children doted on Leone and were paid to do it.
