The third original Italian Netflix series is directed by three talented female filmmakers: Francesca Comencini, Susanna Nicchiarelli and Paola Randi.
The series is based on the novel Le Città Perdute (the lost cities) Luna Nera, bu Tiziana Triana, who contributed to the screenplay along with Francesca Manieri (Il Miracolo), Laura Paolucci (L’Amica Geniale) and Vanessa Picciarelli (Bangla).
In the 17th Century a teenage midwife accused of witchcraft must choose between a star-crossed love and fulfilling her powerful destiny.
17th century Italy. Following the death of a newborn, Ade, a 16 year old midwife is a accused of witchcraft and finds refuge in a mysterious community of women who live in the woods. She must make a choice: it’s either her love for Pietro, the son of the witch hunter, or living her own destiny, one that is a threat to the world we live in, a mix of reason and mysticism.
The set was constructed on a Cinecittà lot where they reconstructed a 17th century village, and in various Lazio locations.
